Sharon (Buckendorf) Kruise
After graduation, Sharon continued to work at Johnson’s and attended CSC for 1 year. Lonnie joined the Navy for four years with a one year tour of duty in the Philippines and two 6 to 8 month tour of duty on board the USS Merrick to Vietnam.
We were married in November 1964 in Johnstown. Sharon went to work at Hewlett Packard in Loveland. Lonnie’s ship was stationed out of Long Beach, California and Sharon transferred to HP In Pasadena, California.
Lonnie was discharged on December 20, 1967 and we then moved to Pacifica, California, where Lonnie went to work for United Air Lines in San Francisco Intl Airport. We moved back to Johnstown in July of 1969.
Lonnie went to work for the Town of Johnstown as Water, Wastewater and Cemetery Superintendent. Lonnie also was assistant football coach for 10 years and Wrestling statistician and announcer for 38 years at RHS. Lonnie helped start and coached the Metro Football program for 8 to 12 year old in Johnstown. Lonnie coached legion baseball for a number of years and was on the coaching staff that brought girls softball to RHS. In 2002 Lonnie’s Cardiologist told him to take disability due to four heart attacks and three separate open heart surgeries. That initiated Lonnie’s retirement at age 57 after 31 years with the Town.
Sharon worked at Hewlett Packard, Merix and Celestica for 40 years. She jokes that was the reason all three businesses went out of business in Colorado. That caused her to loose her mind and she went to work for Wal Mart for three years until finally retiring at age 65. She has been retired for 2 ½ years and loves every minute of it, not so sure that Lonnie feels the same way.
In April 1968 our son, Kenny was born in Daly City, California. He graduated from RHS and obtained a teaching degree from University of Wyoming but works for Anheuser Busch Brewery in Ft Collins. He married Des in 1995 and they have two children, Nathan (July 1999) and Alyssa (June 2001). Des works as an Administrative assistant for the St Vrain School District.
Our daughter, Shannon was born in Greeley in 1970. An RHS graduate, she went on to obtain a sport medicine degree from Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs. Shannon works for an electronics company in Lexington, Kentucky
We will continue to enjoy everything we have, especially our grandchildren and Sharon having lunch with her five sisters.
