Lynette (Premer) Austin
We moved from Johnstown to Greeley in March 1957. I was in the sixth grade leaving the only home I knew and all my friends. It was a big move for us but the move to the “big city” was also a step backward for me. I left a new elementary school in Johnstown to attend a three room country school west of Greeley. Hazelton school was a farming community school but was the district we moved into living 5 miles west of town. My eight grade graduating class was 13. I am happy I got that experience even if it was hard at first. I applied to attend the Lab school at the College which is now the University of Northern Colorado. The Lab school was called College High. It was there I met my husband Bob. He was two grades ahead of me but we fell in love and married while I was a senior. We married in September 1962. We were blessed with our first child Vicki Lyn in December 1963. Both Bob and I worked for State Farm at the regional office in Greeley for a few years, then we were blessed again with our son Scott Eugene in September 1968. I worked for two years at the Hewlett Packard plant in Loveland commuting from Greeley with my mother. In May 1972 we moved to Denver. I worked for Allstate Insurance and CIGNA Insurance but was laid off when both of those offices were moved out of state. I was fortunate to get a job at the University of Denver working in their adult extended learning division called University College doing payroll, accounts payable and was the HR liaison for our unit. I retired from there after 17 years in June 2010. We have five grandchildren, two girls and 3 boys and one great granddaughter! I enjoy sewing, reading, being with the grand kids and having lunch with friends keeps me busy.
